Prototype Era
Era 8 (1983 to 1994) British Rail Sectorisation
The beauty of the Class 33 lies in its functional, uncluttered design. We have meticulously recreated the distinct body profile, featuring fine-scale roof fan grilles, authentic bogie detail, and the specific cab-end variations that define the 33/0, 33/1, and 33/2 (Slimline) variants. With a smooth-running motor and heavy-duty chassis, the Heljan Class 33 is engineered for the same dependable service as the real thing.
One of our most popular ‘OO’ gauge models is returning in late-2025 after several years out of the range. The classic BRCW Type 3 – better known as Class 33/0 – is back with six liveries ranging from original BR Green to 1980s BR Blue and contemporary West Coast Railways red. Also included in the batch is unique BR Blue/Yellow 33012 in late-1990s condition and 33026 in early-1990s BR ‘General’ Grey.

Heljan Class 33 (BR Departmental Grey – 33026) is an OO gauge model of a British Rail diesel locomotive from the period of BR sectorisation. The model carries the manufacturer part number 11034241 and reproduces the general body profile, roof fan grilles, bogie detail and the cab‑end variations of the 33/0, 33/1 and 33/2 (Slimline) subclasses.
The locomotive is scheduled for release in late 2025 following a period out of the range. Six liveries are offered, including the original BR Green, 1980s BR Blue, contemporary West Coast Railways red, a late‑1990s BR Blue/Yellow version of locomotive 33012, and an early‑1990s BR General Grey version of locomotive 33026.
Standard features incorporate a 21‑pin MTC DCC decoder interface, sprung buffers, authentic LED lighting, illuminated headcode panels, wire handrails and detailed cab interiors. The chassis is die‑cast metal with all‑wheel pick‑up and drive, and the model uses NEM couplings. Fine detailing is provided on the body, bogies, underframe tanks, etched grilles and livery application, based on prototype research.
