The Ellis Clark Trains 25T Lowmac BR Bauxite Wagon E278494 is a model of a British Railways wagon used for transporting large machinery and vehicles during the post-war period. The model is produced in OO gauge and represents the early crest era of British Railways.

The model features a detailed diecast frame, end fittings, and pipework. It also includes a NEM pocket combined with a vacuum cylinder, which can be replaced with a fully detailed cylinder. The model has sprung metal buffers and optional EM brake shoes, which are supplied in a separate detail pack. The model's chassis is fully detailed and features brass bearings and pin point axles.

The Lowmac wagon has a long history dating back to the mid-19th century, with the first designs emerging to accommodate the transportation of large machinery on Britain's railways. The design was refined over the years to accommodate heavier loads, but it was during World War II that the Diagram 173 variant was developed, which is the type of wagon that the Ellis Clark Trains model represents. These wagons were constructed in 1944 and were used to transport large military vehicles.

After the war, Lowmacs continued to be used by British Railways, with a new batch being ordered in 1950. They were used to transport a variety of loads, including farm and engineering machinery, oil tanks, and even injured wagons. Some Lowmacs were modified in the 1960s to support containers, which was a precursor to the Freightliner trains that were introduced later.

The model of the Lowmac wagon offers a lot of flexibility in terms of how it can be used in a model railway layout. It can be paired with 'Austerity' engines on wartime traffic or used with heavy freight and mixed traffic engines in peacetime. The wagon's function meant that it was often used singly or in pairs in mixed freight trains, making for an interesting spectacle. However, due to its unglamorous nature, many of its regular workings went undocumented, leaving modellers to use their imagination when loading up their Lowmacs.
