Ellis Clark Trains has released a new OO gauge model of a British Railways Early Crest era 25T Lowmac BR Bauxite Wagon, numbered E263293.

The model features a fully detailed diecast frame, along with detailed end fittings and pipework. The wagon also includes a NEM pocket combined with a vacuum cylinder, which can be replaced with a fully detailed cylinder. The model has sprung metal buffers and optional EM brake shoes, which are supplied in a separate detail pack. Finely detailed etched brass detail parts and separately fitted etched brass tie-down rings are also included. The model's chassis is fully detailed and features brass bearings with pin-point axles.

The 25T Lowmac wagon has a long history dating back to the mid-nineteenth century, when the need for transporting large machinery on Britain's railways became apparent. The design of these wagons evolved over the years, with the Diagram 173 variant being introduced during World War II to transport large military vehicles. The wagons were used extensively in the war effort and were later adapted for use in the construction and agricultural industries after the war. British Railways ordered a new batch of Lowmacs in 1950, which were used to transport a variety of loads until the 1990s.

The Lowmac wagon has been used in a wide range of applications, including transporting heavy machinery, oil tanks, and even injured wagons. Some wagons were modified in the 1960s to support containers, which was a precursor to the Freightliner trains that followed. Today, many Lowmac wagons have been preserved and can be found at sites around the UK. Modellers can use their imagination to load up their Lowmacs, as they were often used to transport a wide range of unusual and awkward loads.
