Manufacturer description

The prototype coaches were constructed between 1914 and 1920 made of steel body sides with an absence of panelling but with bolection mouldings around the windows and frosted glass top light windows, sitting on Churchward 9’-0” bogies. They were designed to operate as a set comprising Left hand and right-hand Brake Thirds, 1 or 2-Thirds and left hand and right-hand Composites enabling all corridor windows to be displayed on the same side, commonly used for cross country and main line working between cities.

Dapol GWR Corridor Toplight BR Crimson & Cream Composite RH (model W6941W) is supplied as a ready‑to‑assemble kit (Manufacturer Part Number 4P‑021‑603). The model represents a British Railways Early Crest coach as it would have appeared in the period 1914–1920.

The prototype coaches were built with steel side panels, frosted‑glass toplight windows and bolection mouldings around the windows, and they rode on Churchward 9‑ft bogies. The kit reproduces these features with die‑cast chassis frames, two stamped metal compensation beams for wheel‑bearing electrical pick‑up, and optional NEM magnetic couplings or traditional NEM‑compatible couplings. Wheels are sized for 00 gauge (16.5 mm) but allow clearance for 18.2 mm gauge wheels; axles are 26 mm over the end points. Sprung metal buffers and close‑coupled cam couplings enable the coaches to negotiate R2 (438 mm) curve trackwork.

Coach sides are supplied as separate ABS‑plastic shells, with gap‑free corridor connections, individual luggage racks, shell ventilators (period optional), metal door and commode handles, and separate destination boards for the modeller to fit. All interiors are lit, and a DCC decoder plug with a blanking plug is included. The kit is suitable for recreating cross‑country or main‑line GWR corridor sets comprising brake thirds, 1‑ or 2‑thirds and composites, with all corridor windows displayed on the same side.
