Prototype Era
Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)
The prototype coaches were constructed between 1914 and 1920 made of steel body sides with an absence of panelling but with bolection mouldings around the windows and frosted glass top light windows, sitting on Churchward 9’-0” bogies. They were designed to operate as a set comprising Left hand and right-hand Brake Thirds, 1 or 2-Thirds and left hand and right-hand Composites enabling all corridor windows to be displayed on the same side, commonly used for cross country and main line working between cities.

Dapol GWR Corridor Toplight 1940 All‑Brown Twin Cities Composite LH 6942 is a 00‑gauge model railway coach produced by Dapol, part number 4P‑021‑402. It represents a coach from the period known as the Big Four, specifically a Great Western Railway twin‑city composite built in 1940. The model is supplied as an all‑brown, left‑hand coach ready for fitting with destination boards and DCC decoders.
The chassis uses die‑cast frames with two stamped metal compensation beams to provide wheel‑bearing electrical pick‑up via stub axles. The underframe includes two styles of truss rods and is capable of close‑coupled operation on R2 (438 mm) curves, employing NEM pockets for magnetic couplings. Wheels are sized for 00 gauge (16.5 mm) with clearance for 18.2 mm gauge wheels, and the axles measure 26 mm over end points. Sprung metal buffers are fitted.
The body comprises separate ABS‑plastic side panels and features a gap‑free corridor connection suitable for R2 curves. Roof ventilators, metal door and commode handles, and a separately fitted luggage rack in each passenger compartment reflect the period detail. Destination boards are supplied separately for the modeller to attach, and the interior is equipped with lighting and a DCC decoder plug with a blanking plug.
