Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)
These coaches were designed by William Stanier in the 1930s as flush sided metal clad versions of the previous LMS suburban coaches. The prototype managed to last in service as late as the mid 1960s, in BR use. The prototypes that Dapol's tooling is based on numbered 25 composites and 32 brake end coaches. The coaches appeared in three liveries throughout their service life; LMS lined maroon, BR Carmine and BR lined maroon.
Specifications / Improvements
The tooling was originally purchased by Dapol from Airfix back in the 1980's, there are some compromises on detailĀ and accuracy due to the condition of tooling that is now fifty+ years old. We have however made some improvementsĀ to these models which are listed below.

The Dapol 57ft Stanier Non-Corridor Composite 19175 is a model of a British railway coach designed by William Stanier in the 1930s. The prototype was a flush-sided metal-clad version of the LMS suburban coaches that remained in service until the mid-1960s. Dapol's model is based on 25 composite coaches and 32 brake end coaches that carried three liveries during their service life: LMS lined maroon, BR Carmine, and BR lined maroon.
The model's tooling was originally purchased from Airfix in the 1980s and has undergone some improvements. These include the addition of new separately fitted underframe details, a dynamo, upgraded vacuum cylinders, extra framing, brake shafts, and upgraded bogie pivot fixing. The model also features new metal wheels, adaptor clips for NEM pockets, and re-polished glazing.
