The Romanian built IOA wagon is a type of high sided open wagon designed to carry ballast and spoil. They were first released in 2009 and all carried the distinctive Network Rail Engineers yellow livery and were designated Mussel. The IOA had a maximum load capacity of 102 tonnes and usually travel in block trains of 10 wagons or more.Â

Dapol IOA Ballast Wagon (Network Rail Yellow) – model reference 3170 5992 036‑1, manufacturer part number 4F‑045‑022. The model represents the rebuilding of the railways period and depicts a Romanian built IOA high‑sided open wagon used for carrying ballast and spoil. First released in 2009, the wagons were supplied in the Network Rail Engineers yellow livery and were designated “Mussel”. The real wagon had a maximum load capacity of 102 tonnes and typically operated in block trains of ten wagons or more.
Key features of the model include a finely moulded body with numerous separately added details, a precisely applied livery with accurately printed markings, profiled wheels, and standard NEM (National Equipment Marking) pockets.
