Manufacturer description

Ventilated vans were the primary way of transporting perishable goods quickly and efficiently, yet maintaining goods in peak condition. All four pre-nationalised companies had their own design of ventilated van, but shared the same principals of design; a wooden body with ventilators allowing a constant flow and circulation of fresh air around the cargo. Dapol have modelled two varieties; the GWR type with its wooden planked ends and the LMS type with its steel corrugated end. Both these vans were in use right up to the 1960’s and several survive into preservation.

Dapol Ventilated Van GWR 123525 is a 0 gauge (OO) model of a Great Western Railway ventilated goods van. The livery is GWR grey and the wheel arrangement consists of four wheels. The vehicle is represented as built by GWR Swindon between 1933 and 1939 and carries the manufacturer part number 4F-012-031. The model represents the period of the Big Four railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).

Ventilated vans were used to transport perishable goods, using a wooden body with ventilators to provide a constant flow of fresh air around the cargo. Each of the four pre‑nationalisation companies had its own design; the GWR version has wooden planked ends, while the LMS version features a steel corrugated end. Both types remained in service until the 1960s and several examples survive in preservation.

The Dapol model includes a finely moulded body, accurately applied livery and printed details, profiled wheels, NEM pockets and self‑centering couplings.
