Era 9 (1995 to 2004) Initial Privatisation
Era 11 (2016 to 2026) The Last Days of Privatisation
Announced as part of the Summer 2023 British Railway Announcements, we are delighted to present this OO scale model of a BR Mk2A BFK Mainline Support Coach in BR Maroon livery.
Steam and diesel-hauled railtours are now a familiar sight on the national network, and as part of these trains you will often see support coaches marshalled immediately behind the locomotive. These invaluable vehicles are usually owned by the locomotive’s owning group, or by the same company as the excursion stock, and not only carry the train’s support crew and their tools and equipment, but even provide kitchen facilities and accommodation when away from home.
The Bahamas Locomotive Society is one such group that operates its own support coach, primarily for use with its LMS Jubilee Class locomotive No. 45596, and this is the coach depicted by this Bachmann Collectors Club Limited Edition model. Built at Derby in 1967/68 under Lot No. 30775 and withdrawn as No. W17060 in July 1996, this vehicle has been in the ownership of the Bahamas Locomotive Society since 2015. The coach was refurbished and repainted into BR Maroon livery with the number M14060 to coincide with Bahamas’s return to the mainline in 2019. With most support coaches being Mk1 or Mk2 brake vehicles, this new model is sure to be useful for anyone depicting steam operations in recent years.

Bachmann Collectors Club has issued a limited‑edition OO‑scale model of a British Railways Mark 2A BFK (Brake First Corridor) support coach in BR Maroon livery. The model is finished in a pristine condition, carries the running number M14060 and measures 270 mm in length. It uses NEM coupling pockets, a close‑coupling mechanism and bears the manufacturer part number 39‑413K. The vehicle represents the initial privatisation period of British Railways.
The model was announced in the Summer 2023 British Railway Announcements and depicts the support coach owned by the Bahamas Locomotive Society. The real coach was built at Derby in 1967/68 (Lot No. 30775), withdrawn as No. W17060 in July 1996 and acquired by the society in 2015. It was refurbished and repainted in BR Maroon with the number M14060 for the society’s return to mainline operation in 2019.
Support coaches such as this are typically marshalled directly behind a locomotive on steam or diesel‑hauled railtours, providing accommodation, kitchen facilities and tools for the support crew. The Bachmann model, classified as Era 9, is intended for modelers portraying recent steam excursions on the national network.
