Bachmann have produced a pair of North Eastern Railway wooden‑bodied snowploughs, numbers 11 and 12, in LNER blue. The items form a limited‑edition release for the Rails of Sheffield range and carry the manufacturer part number 38‑641Z. They represent the period of the Big Four railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).
The models are based on drawings and research of the surviving NER Snowplough No 12 and feature authentic, fully finished livery. They include RP25 finescale wheel profiles, an NEM rear coupling, separately fitted handrails, lamp irons, a chimney and posable lamp irons on the plough blade. The interior is painted and detailed with a handbrake, stove and seats, and a detail pack provides a chain‑link coupling. Produced in partnership between Bachmann Europe, Rails of Sheffield and Locomotion Models, the snowploughs are supplied ready‑to‑run.
Historically, such wooden‑bodied snowploughs were used across the North East of England to keep important routes open during harsh winter months and were most often operated in pairs. This model is exclusive to the Rails of Sheffield range.
