When British Railways was formed in 1948, it inherited thousands of wagons from the big four. Whilst many of these wagons were perfectly suited for their intended purposes, BR identified a need for a purpose-built wagon to transport powered goods, such as cement, which previously were transported in bags in vans.

 

So, in 1954 the first ‘Presflo’ (short for pressure flow) was built, which utilised the science of air fluidisation, a process which pumps air into the powder to prevent clumping and keep it loose, allowing the powder to be drained from the wagon efficiently. The design was very successful and lasted well into the 1980’s, finding use on different traffic flows up and down the country. This particular model depicts a ‘Presflo’ in BR Bauxite livery with ‘Blue Circle Bulk Cement’ company boards.

 

This Bachmann Branchline ‘Presflo’ tooling suite comprehensively covers the history of these wagons, allowing us to produce a variety of different Presflo types. Our model features a wealth of separately fitted parts, including an end ladder, roof catwalk, handrails and underframe equipment. The ubiquitous BR Bauxite livery is applied using accurate colours and typefaces to produce an iconic wagon fit for any OO scale model railway.

The Bachmann BR 22T CPV Presflo Bulk Powder Wagon (BR Bauxite “Blue Circle”) is a OO scale model released by Bachmann Branchline, part number 38-270B. It represents a British Rail (BR) wagon from the BR Blue TOPS era.

The model replicates the Presflo wagon introduced by British Railways in 1954 to carry powdered goods such as cement. The design used air fluidisation to keep the powder loose and allow efficient discharge. The particular version shown carries the BR Bauxite livery with Blue Circle Bulk Cement branding and bears the running number B888556.

The kit includes a range of separately fitted components, such as an end ladder, roof catwalk, handrails and underframe equipment. It is painted in the authentic BR Bauxite colour scheme using correct typefaces. The model conforms to era 7 standards, has NEM coupling pockets and measures 87 mm in length. An accessory pack is supplied with the kit.
