A new addition to the range of OO scale rolling stock produced exclusively for members of the Bachmann Collectors Club comes in the form of this 45T TTA Tank Wagon, in Gulf’s attractive Grey & Orange livery.

Gulf Oil (GB) Ltd started operating rail tank wagons in Britain around 1960, initially using second-hand 14T Anchor mounted tank wagons from the 1950s. By the mid-1960s Gulf had placed orders for new tank wagons, these being the more contemporary TTA 4-wheel tanks and later, the larger TEA bogie tanks with the attractive grey and orange colour scheme featuring prominently on the latter. The wagons operated primarily from the Gulf refinery at Milford Haven, where they moved almost 1/4 of the plant’s output around the UK by rail, whilst 3/4 was moved by sea.

Prototype information

Bachmann Collectors Club have released a limited‑edition OO‑scale model of a British Rail TTA 45‑ton tank wagon in Gulf Oil’s grey and orange livery. The model is presented in pristine condition and carries the running number 733. It is part of a run of 504 certificated pieces.

The prototype was operated by Gulf Oil (GB) Ltd from the early 1960s. Initially, the company used second‑hand 14‑ton Anchor tanks before ordering new four‑wheel TTA tanks in the mid‑1960s, later supplemented by larger TEA bogie tanks. The wagons were based at Gulf’s refinery at Milford Haven and conveyed roughly a quarter of the plant’s output by rail.

Model specifications: OO scale (Era 6), length 122 mm, NEM coupling pockets, British Rail Blue (pre‑TOPS) period representation, and manufacturer part number 37‑576K. The finish is a pristine Gulf grey and orange livery.
