Prototype Era
Era 7 (1972 to 1982) British Rail Blue (TOPS)
The 27 Ton Steel Tippler Wagons were built by British Railways to convey bulk materials like ore, chalk and sand, and having no doors, they were originally unloaded by means of a rotary tippler. As traffic requirements changed and new, larger wagons were introduced, many wagons were made redundant, but some found a second life moving heavy ingot moulds around metal works and between different sites. Reflecting their new role, the wagons were given a yellow band around the top and were lettered INGOTMOULD on each side. Boasting features like metal buffer heads, separate brake gear, NEM couplings and blackened metal wheelsets, all you need to add to this Bachmann Branchline model is your own mould or two!

The Bachmann Branchline BR 27‑ton Steel Tippler (model 37‑283) is a OO‑scale replica of the British Rail wagon that originally carried bulk materials such as ore, chalk and sand. The prototype had no doors and was emptied by a rotary tippler; later examples were repurposed for moving heavy ingot moulds and were marked with a yellow band and the lettering “INGOTMOULD”.
The model is presented in a weathered BR grey and yellow livery, carries the running number B384378, and features metal buffer heads, separate brake gear, NEM coupling pockets and blackened metal wheelsets. It measures 83 mm over the couplings and is designated for Era 7 operation. Users will need to provide their own ingot mould accessories.
