The Bachmann Branchline Class 41 Diesel Locomotive depicts No. 41001, one of just two Prototype HSDT Power Cars which made up the Prototype High Speed Diesel Train (HSDT) and a locomotive that now forms part of the National Collection. Selected as the flagship model for their new ‘Railway Icons’ range, this museum-standard model has been commissioned by Locomotion Models, the official model shop of the National Railway Museum, and Rails of Sheffield. Using the same foundations as the award-winning Bachmann Branchline Class 47 and Class 37, this new model captures the distinctive shape and character of this 1970s icon to a tee. Bachmann Branchline Class 41 (British Rail Class 252) Prototype HSDT Power Car Diesel Locomotive No 41001 is a limited‑edition model released under the Rails of Sheffield brand. The model is DCC Ready, featuring a Plux 22 socket, and includes interior lighting.
The locomotive is represented in British Rail Blue (TOPS) livery and carries the manufacturer part number 35‑110NRM. It is classed as a Class 43 and bears a full set of decorative buffer‑beam pipework and accessory parts.
The model depicts No 41001, one of two prototype High Speed Diesel Train power cars now part of the National Collection. It was commissioned by Locomotion Models, the official model shop of the National Railway Museum, and Rails of Sheffield as the flagship of the Railway Icons range, using the same foundations as the award‑winning Bachmann Branchline Class 47 and Class 37.
Technical features include a five‑pole twin‑shaft motor with two flywheels driving both bogies, all‑axle drive, metal bearings on each axle, a die‑cast metal chassis and gearboxes, and 16.5 mm (OO gauge) wheels to NEM310 and NEM311 standards with disc‑brake detailing. The model incorporates directional, cab and guard‑compartment lighting, all switchable on DCC or analogue control, as well as a Plux22 DCC decoder and dual speakers for sound.
The allocation of the DCC Ready version is sold out; however, a small quantity remains available for pre‑order through Locomotion Models. The model is exclusive to Rails of Sheffield and Locomotion Models.
