Prototype Era
Era 5 (1956 to 1966) British Railways Late Crest
As part of our Winter 2022 British Railway Announcements, we are pleased to present this LNER Thompson First Corridor Coach, No. E11176E in BR Maroon livery.
Entering traffic just after World War Two, the Thompson coaches were the last mainline corridor coaches to be built by the LNER, and indeed examples continued to be outshopped after Nationalisation in 1948. Utilising steel panelling, a departure from the teak panelling traditionally seen on coaches built by the LNER and its predecessors, the Thompson coaches were sleek and modern in appearance. Whilst much of the fleet would remain in service until the final days of steam, many of their hallmarks would also be seen in their successors, the British Railway Mark 1 Standard Coaching Stock.
The Bachmann Branchline models of the LNER Thompson Coaches entered traffic to critical acclaim only a few years ago, and these stunning models are now offered in BR Maroon livery for the first time. Essential for any BR Eastern Region modeller, every coach is a faithful replica of the prototype, with features like separately fitted roof vents and metal handrails on the roof, whilst underneath the vacuum and steam heat pipework is present along with battery boxes, dynamo and brake equipment all fitted between the truss rod frames. The bogies incorporate electrical pickups, brake details and footsteps as appropriate, whilst authentic interiors are also included and decorated accordingly, adding to the expertly finished exterior which uses authentic colours, logos and fonts to every model an exquisite appearance.

The Bachmann Branchline LNER Thompson First Corridor Coach in BR Maroon livery is a new addition to the Branchline range. This OO scale model represents a coach that was part of the final batch of mainline corridor coaches built by the London & North Eastern Railway before the nationalisation of the railways in 1948.
The Thompson coaches were notable for their use of steel panelling, a departure from the traditional teak panelling of earlier LNER coaches. They were characterised by a sleek and modern appearance, and many of their design features were carried over into the British Railways Mark 1 Standard Coaching Stock.
This model is a faithful replica of the prototype, with separately fitted roof vents and metal handrails on the roof. The vacuum and steam heat pipework, battery boxes, dynamo and brake equipment are all fitted between the truss rod frames. The bogies feature electrical pickups, brake details and footsteps, and the interior is decorated to match the authentic exterior. The model is finished in pristine BR Maroon livery, with accurate colours, logos and fonts.
The model is part of the Bachmann Branchline range, specifically the OO scale range, and is classified as Era 5. It features a close coupling mechanism and NEM coupling pockets, and has a length of 264mm.
