Manufacturer description

As part of our Winter 2022 British Railway Announcements, we are pleased to present this LNER Thompson Brake Composite Corridor Coach, No. E1187E in BR Maroon livery.

Entering traffic just after World War Two, the Thompson coaches were the last mainline corridor coaches to be built by the LNER, and indeed examples continued to be outshopped after Nationalisation in 1948. Utilising steel panelling, a departure from the teak panelling traditionally seen on coaches built by the LNER and its predecessors, the Thompson coaches were sleek and modern in appearance. Whilst much of the fleet would remain in service until the final days of steam, many of their hallmarks would also be seen in their successors, the British Railway Mark 1 Standard Coaching Stock.

The Bachmann Branchline models of the LNER Thompson Coaches entered traffic to critical acclaim only a few years ago, and these stunning models are now offered in BR Maroon livery for the first time. Essential for any BR Eastern Region modeller, every coach is a faithful replica of the prototype, with features like separately fitted roof vents and metal handrails on the roof, whilst underneath the vacuum and steam heat pipework is present along with battery boxes, dynamo and brake equipment all fitted between the truss rod frames. The bogies incorporate electrical pickups, brake details and footsteps as appropriate, whilst authentic interiors are also included and decorated accordingly, adding to the expertly finished exterior which uses authentic colours, logos and fonts to every model an exquisite appearance.

Bachmann's latest addition to their Branchline range is a model of a London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) Thompson Brake Composite Corridor Coach, specifically in British Railways (BR) Maroon livery. The model, numbered E1187E, has been released as part of the company's Winter 2022 British Railway Announcements.

The Thompson coaches were built by the LNER in the post-World War Two period and were notable for their use of steel panelling, a departure from the traditional teak panelling used by the LNER and its predecessors. The coaches were sleek and modern in appearance, and many of their features were incorporated into the design of later British Railways coaching stock.

The Bachmann Branchline model of the LNER Thompson Coach has been well-received by modellers and is now available in BR Maroon livery for the first time. The model features a range of authentic details, including separately fitted roof vents, metal handrails on the roof, vacuum and steam heat pipework, and battery boxes. The interior of the model is also decorated accurately, adding to its overall appearance.

The model is in OO scale and is classified as Era 5, representing the period of British Railways in the late 1940s and 1950s. It features a length of 264mm and includes a close coupling mechanism and NEM coupling pockets.
