Manufacturer description

As part of our Winter 2022 British Railway Announcements, we are pleased to present this LNER Thompson Composite Corridor Coach, No. E1229E in BR Maroon livery.

Entering traffic just after World War Two, the Thompson coaches were the last mainline corridor coaches to be built by the LNER, and indeed examples continued to be outshopped after Nationalisation in 1948. Utilising steel panelling, a departure from the teak panelling traditionally seen on coaches built by the LNER and its predecessors, the Thompson coaches were sleek and modern in appearance. Whilst much of the fleet would remain in service until the final days of steam, many of their hallmarks would also be seen in their successors, the British Railway Mark 1 Standard Coaching Stock.

The Bachmann Branchline models of the LNER Thompson Coaches entered traffic to critical acclaim only a few years ago, and these stunning models are now offered in BR Maroon livery for the first time. Essential for any BR Eastern Region modeller, every coach is a faithful replica of the prototype, with features like separately fitted roof vents and metal handrails on the roof, whilst underneath the vacuum and steam heat pipework is present along with battery boxes, dynamo and brake equipment all fitted between the truss rod frames. The bogies incorporate electrical pickups, brake details and footsteps as appropriate, whilst authentic interiors are also included and decorated accordingly, adding to the expertly finished exterior which uses authentic colours, logos and fonts to every model an exquisite appearance.

Bachmann's OO scale LNER Thompson Composite Corridor Coach, No. E1229E, has been released in British Railways Maroon livery as part of the Winter 2022 announcements.

The Thompson coaches were a series of corridor coaches built by the London and North Eastern Railway, the last mainline corridor coaches to be constructed by the company. They were introduced into service just after World War Two and continued to be built after nationalisation in 1948. These coaches utilised steel panelling, a departure from the traditional teak panelling used by the LNER and its predecessors.

Bachmann's Branchline models of the LNER Thompson Coaches were previously released to critical acclaim. This new release in BR Maroon livery is a faithful replica of the prototype, featuring separately fitted roof vents and metal handrails on the roof. The coach also includes vacuum and steam heat pipework, battery boxes, dynamo and brake equipment, all fitted between the truss rod frames. The bogies incorporate electrical pickups, brake details and footsteps, and the interior is authentically decorated.

The model is a part of the Bachmann Branchline range and is designed for Era 5. It features pristine BR Maroon livery and has a running number of E1229E. The coach has a length of 249mm and features NEM coupling pockets and a close coupling mechanism.
