Manufacturer description

The POA Scrap Wagons were built from new or converted from other, redundant types, during the 1980s to carry scrap metal. The open box design was loaded and unloaded using grab machines or electro-magnets and the wagons entered traffic in a bold blue and yellow colour scheme. Built by Standard Wagon and owned privately by Standard Railfreight, in 1990 British Rail purchased the fleet of 191 wagons upon which they were recoded as SSA under the Total Operations Processing System (TOPS).

The Bachmann Branchline model boasts an injection moulded bodyshell with separately fitted ladders on either side. The chassis incorporates a heavy metal weight providing a low centre of gravity which, combined with the blackened metal wheelsets, ensures smooth and reliable running.

Bachmann Branchline OO scale model POA Scrap Wagon, part number 33-436B, presented in a weathered Standard Railfreight blue and yellow livery. The model measures 126 mm over the couplings and carries running number RLS5952.

The prototype wagons were built, either new or converted from redundant types, during the 1980s to transport scrap metal. Their open‑box design was loaded and unloaded by grab machines or electro‑magnets, and the fleet of 191 wagons was owned privately by Standard Railfreight before being purchased by British Rail in 1990 and recoded as SSA under the TOPS system, representing the British Rail sectorisation era.

The model features an injection‑moulded bodyshell with separate ladders fitted to each side. The chassis includes a heavy metal weight to give a low centre of gravity, and the blackened metal wheelsets provide smooth, reliable running.
