BR Standard 3MT Tank 82041 BR Lined Green (Late Crest)
History
The BR Standard Class 3 2-6-2T was a class of steam locomotive designed by Robert Riddles for British Railways. It was essentially a hybrid design, the chassis being closely based on and sharing a number of parts with the LMS Ivatt Class 4, and having a boiler derived from a GWR No.2 boiler as fitted to the GWR Large Prairie 2-6-2T and 5600 Class 0-6-2T tank engines.
From new, they were based on the Western Region, Southern Region, North Eastern Region and London Midland Region. The class had a short life as most of the work that they had been built for soon disappeared with the branch lines and the introduction of DMU services on shorter routes.
When delivered new the class all carried BR lined MT black livery. From 1957 onwards, those members of the class based on the Western Region started to receive lined green livery. From the early 1960s, some Western Region class members also received unlined green livery as an economy measure. Those class members allocated to other regions retained lined black livery until withdrawal.
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

Bachmann model BR Standard 3MT Tank (82041) is a 2019 range, DCC‑ready 8‑pin model of the British Railways Standard Class 3 2‑6‑2T locomotive. It is finished in pristine condition and carries the BR lined green livery with the Late Crest insignia, representing the Late Crest period. The model measures 170 mm in length, runs on a minimum radius curve of 371 mm (first radius), and is equipped with a 3‑pin DCC socket.
The prototype locomotive was built between 1952 and 1955, with a total of 45 engines produced. Designed by Robert Riddles, the class combined chassis components from the LMS Ivatt Class 4 with a boiler derived from the GWR No.2 design used on the GWR Large Prairie and 5600 Class tank engines. Originally delivered to Western, Southern, North Eastern and London Midland regions, the class was soon withdrawn as branch lines closed and diesel multiple units replaced steam services.
The model bears the manufacturer part number 31‑976B and is intended for use on 2‑6‑2T wheel‑arrangement layouts depicting British Railways operations in the Late Crest era.
