Manufacturer description

We are delighted to be able to bring you our new Class 410 4-BEP 4-Car EMU in BR (SR) Green livery. The buffet car in the Branchline model is an entirely new tooling to make the 4-BEP a truly accurate representation of the prototype.

This model is a great partner to our Class 411 4-CEPs and like all Bachmann models, the 4-BEP features a high level of detail and decoration inside and out.

MODEL FEATURES:

CLASS 410 HISTORY

Ordered alongside the 4-CEP (later Class 411) Electric Multiple Units, the British Rail 4-BEPs (later Class 410) were four-car EMUs built at BR’s Eastleigh Works between 1957 and 1961 to operate on the newly electrified main lines in Kent. Based on the BR Mk1 bodyshell, the BEPs differed from the CEPs by having a Buffet Car in place of one of the standard trailer cars. When BR came to refurbish the units, some remained as BEPs but others were reformed int CEPs due to the reduced requirements for catering facilities – the remaining BEPs became Class 412/3s following refurbishment.

Following the privatisation of British Rail in 1995, the units were used on Connex South Central, Connex South Eastern and South West Trains franchises before being replace by a new generation of multiple unit as the industry sought to eliminate ‘slam-door’ rolling stock for reasons of safety and modernisation.

Bachmann Branchline OO scale model of a British Rail Class 410 “4‑BEP” four‑car electric multiple unit, supplied in the original BR (SR) green livery with the late crest. The model carries the running number 7005 and is presented in pristine condition.

The model measures 1,070 mm in length and is built to a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (2nd radius). It includes a 21‑pin socket for DCC decoders, directional exterior lighting, interior cab lighting and NEM coupling pockets. The unit is ready for DCC operation.

The prototype was constructed at Eastleigh Works between 1957 and 1961 and entered service on the newly electrified Kent main lines. It featured a buffet car in place of a standard trailer, distinguishing it from the similar Class 411 “4‑CEP”. Later refurbishments saw some units converted to CEPs or re‑classed as 412/3, and after privatisation the surviving units operated with various South Eastern franchises until being withdrawn in the 1990s.
