History
The Great Western Railway 3200 Class was a class of steam locomotive with 4-4-0 wheel arrangement and was nicknamed ‘Earl’ or ‘Dukedog’ class. These passenger train locomotives were composed of former Duke class boilers on Bulldog class frames. They were one of the last steam locomotive classes to retain outside frames.
The first prototype conversion retained its Duke number and name, but the others took new numbers in the 32xx series and were given the names of Earls who had some connection to the GWR. The names were removed and re-applied to Castle Class locomotives in 1937.
In 1946 the whole class was renumbered 90xx upon the delivery of new 2251 Class engines. Only one member of the class survives in preservation at the Bluebell Railway, No. 9017 (3217).
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

Bachmann GWR 32XX ‘Earl’ model 3206 Earl of Plymouth is a 230 mm (OO gauge) representation of the Great Western Railway 3200 “Earl” class locomotive. The kit is supplied in a pristine condition with a GWR green livery, fitted DCC sound, and a realistic green “shirt‑button” finish. It carries the running number 3206 and the name Earl of Plymouth, and includes a tender with a pickup rail.
The model features an adjustable tender draw‑bar, a fully detailed cab interior, a copper‑cap chimney, a hinged tender fall‑plate and etched nameplates. It is designed for DCC operation, with DCC sound already installed, and the tender is capable of drawing power. The minimum curve radius is the second radius (438 mm) and the locomotive is a 4‑4‑0 steam engine.
The prototype was built by the Great Western Railway between 1936 and 1939 to a design by Charles Collett. It belonged to the “Earl” or “Dukedog” class, a mixed‑boiler conversion used for passenger duties. The class comprised thirty locomotives and formed part of the Big Four era (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR). Only one member of the class survives in preservation, No 9017 (3217) on the Bluebell Railway.
