FEA-S GBRf (ex-Metronet) yellow no container (twin pack) - 640907 & 640918 (Pack 1)
The FEA design first appeared in early 2003 with 60ft FEA-B twin container flats built by Greenbrier Europe at Ĺwidnica for Freightlinerâs Intermodal business. Around 18 months later, single-unit variantsâlargely intended for infrastructure trafficâentered service. All were mounted on Y33 bogies and outwardly similar, regardless of TOPS suffix, apart from Network Railâs later RHTT-specific type.
Initial customers for the singles included Balfour Beatty, which acquired six grey FEA-D wagons (640571â6) for Harsco New Track Construction trains, and GB Railfreight (GBRf), which purchased 63 steel-blue FEA-S (640631â93). These carried 20ft âSalmonâ track panel and âTenchâ materials modules, though many later handled conventional containers, including maritime boxes and gypsum traffic. Freightliner Heavy Haul followed with 66 FEA-E (641001â641066) from late 2004, painted green and often used in both infrastructure and container or âbinlinerâ waste flows.
In 2006, GBRf introduced 18 bright yellow FEA-S (640905â22) for Metronetâs London Underground renewals, preceded by four blue examples. A further 22 yellow wagons were supplied to Transplant for a Rail and Sleeper Delivery Train fitted with âSlingerâ equipment. Subsequent infrastructure fleet renewals and organisational changes saw most FEAs migrate to container duties, while specialised formations were dismantled and equipment removed.

Accurascale FEAâS GBRf (exâMetronet) yellow â Twin Pack 1 is a model of a 60âŻft freight wagon. It is supplied in the GB Railfreight (GBRf) yellow livery and carries the manufacturer part number ACC3369. The model represents the initial privatisation period of British rail freight.
The FEA design first appeared in early 2003, initially as 60âŻft twin container flats (FEAâB) built by Greenbrier Europe at Ĺwidnica for Freightlinerâs intermodal operations. About 18 months later singleâunit variants were introduced for infrastructure traffic. All wagons are mounted on Y33 bogies and share a common external appearance, irrespective of TOPS suffix, aside from the later Network Rail RHTTâspecific type.
Early singleâunit customers included Balfour Beatty, which took six grey FEAâD wagons (640571â640576) for Harsco New Track Construction trains, and GB Railfreight, which ordered 63 steelâblue FEAâS units (640631â640693). These wagons were originally used to carry 20âŻft âSalmonâ track panels and âTenchâ material modules, but many later handled conventional containers, maritime boxes and gypsum traffic. Freightliner Heavy Haul followed with 66 greenâpainted FEAâE wagons (641001â641066) from late 2004, employed in both infrastructure work and container or waste âbinlinerâ services.
In 2006 GBRf introduced 18 bright yellow FEAâS wagons (640905â640922) for Metronetâs London Underground renewal programme, preceded by four blue examples. A further 22 yellow wagons were supplied to Transplant for a rail and sleeper delivery train equipped with âSlingerâ gear. Subsequent fleet renewals have seen most of these wagons reallocated to container duties, with specialised formations being dismantled and equipment removed.
