Accurascale has produced a new OO gauge model of the Cutdown HYA ex-Biomass wagons in Blue/Black with VTG branding. This model represents the modified wagons that were converted from both HYA and IIA stock. The model is available in a pack of two, each with individual running numbers and decoration.
The model features highly detailed OO gauge models with 16.5mm track, NEM standard coupler pockets, and kinematic close coupling functionality. The wagons have sprung buffers, dummy screw link couplers, and etched metal factory-fitted detailing. Additional fine detail parts are also included, such as air pipes, brake hand-wheels, levers, and hopper operating brackets.
The model features blackened RP25.110 profile wheel-sets with 14.4mm back-to-back measurements and 26mm over pinpoints. The wagons are 195mm over buffers in length and 160g in weight.
The prototype history of the HYA/IIA family of bogie coal hoppers dates back to 2007, when International Railway Services (IRS) and WH Davis built 368 wagons for Fastline Freight and GB Railfreight. The fleet was later reduced in length to make them more suitable for carrying aggregates, with the first prototype being released in February 2016.
The model range includes wagons originally built for GE Rail Services/Fastline as IIAs, but latterly operated by GBRf, and those built for biomass use by VTG. The model is a much-requested item and features unique markings, including different branding and running numbers, to reflect the parentage of the prototype wagons.
Accurascale has also made improvements to the model, including switching the tail light operation from a battery to track pick-up and improving the quality control procedures to meet the manufacturer's high demands for free-rolling wagons.
