Accurascale has released a new range of OO gauge models, featuring cutdown HYA wagons in Blue/Black livery with Touax/GB Railfreight branding and working tail lights. This pack includes two wagons, each with its own unique running number and decoration.

The models are highly detailed and feature etched metal factory-fitted detailing, extra fine factory-fitted plastic parts, and individual lettering and logos. They have NEM standard coupler pockets with kinematic close coupling functionality and NEM narrow tension lock couplers at the correct height. The wagons are fitted with sprung buffers and dummy screw link couplers.

Each model is 195mm over buffers in length and weighs 160g. The wheels are blackened RP25.110 profile with 14.4mm back-to-back measurements and 26mm over pinpoints.

The HYA/IIA family of bogie coal hoppers was one of the casualties of the UK's carbon tax increase in 2015. The fleet of 368 wagons was built between 2007 and 2013 and consisted of the youngest wagons in operation. As coal volumes fell, many examples were either stored or redeployed to carry aggregates, which was not ideal due to the denser nature of stone.

In 2016, VTG Rail began converting the wagons to reduce their length and make them more suitable for aggregates haulage. The first prototype was released in February 2016, and by mid-2024, just 77 examples remained unconverted. The converted wagons are TOPS coded HYA, regardless of their original type, and from 2020, former biomass versions were also included in the programme.

In 2021, WH Davis outshopped 48 cutdown wagons with Touax and GB Railfreight branding, replacing the previous unpainted, patch-painted, and silver-grey finish. A further batch of nine wagons was completed in August 2022, and 25 more were sent to Langwith Junction in November 2023 for length reduction.

Accurascale's models represent these modified wagons from both HYA and IIA donors, with end detailing to reflect their parentage. Each twin pack comes with individual markings, including unique running numbers and different branding depending on the lessor of the wagons.
