Accurascale has released a new model of the BR clay hood wagon, available in a triple pack with three different livery options. The model is designed to represent the wagon in its Freight Bauxite livery, a period-specific representation of the wagon's appearance before the introduction of TOPS.

The model features a highly detailed representation of the wagon's interior, including a removable tarpaulin sheet and a fully detailed underside. The wheels are RP25.110 chemically blackened OO gauge, and the axles run on brass bearings for smooth running. The model also includes a range of etched metal and plastic detail parts, including handrails, grab handles, and lamp brackets.

The wagon is constructed from plastic and die-cast metal, with a weight of 42g per wagon. The model features NEM standard coupler pockets and narrow tension lock couplers, as well as turned sprung metal buffers in two different types. The accessory bag includes instanter couplings and a range of other details.

The BR clay hood wagon was a common sight on the railways of Cornwall and South Devon, used to transport China clay and ball clay. The wagon's design evolved over time, with changes including the addition of vacuum brakes, the introduction of the pent hood, and the application of a yellow stripe to identify wagons carrying ball clay.

The model is designed to be highly detailed and accurate, with individual lettering and codes from real wagons included to add authenticity. The model is a representation of the wagon in its Freight Bauxite livery, a period-specific representation of the wagon's appearance before the introduction of TOPS.

The BR clay hood wagon was built in several batches between 1954 and 1960, with a total of 875 wagons produced. The wagon was used to transport a variety of cargoes, including China clay and ball clay, and was a staple of the Cornish railway scene until its eventual replacement by air-braked wagons in 1988.
