The 'Beilhack' ZZA Snowplough dates back to 1982, when BR required additional snowploughs on the network. A novel solution was found using redundant bogies from withdrawn Class 40 and 45 locomotives, which were fitted with a plough blade manufactured by Beilhack, and weight added. A total of 10 were built at Stratford and Ashford up to 1990 latterly using Class 45 bogies. They have carried several liveries including BR yellow, Railtrack, and they are still in use today with Network Rail.

Accurascale Beilhack Snowplough ZZA ADB965578/579 âStratford Sharkâ BR yellow (ex ClassâŻ40) Twin Pack is a model kit that replicates the British Rail snowploughs introduced in 1982. The kit is supplied under manufacturer part number ACC3041 and represents a vehicle painted in the British Rail Blue TOPS livery.
The original snowploughs were created by fitting redundant bogies from withdrawn ClassâŻ40 and later ClassâŻ45 locomotives with a Beilhack plough blade and additional weighting. Ten examples were built at Stratford and Ashford between 1982 and 1990, and they have operated in several liveries, including BR yellow, Railtrack and the current Network Rail scheme.
The Accurascale model is offered as a twinâpack, allowing users to assemble both a leftâhand and a rightâhand version of the snowplough. It is intended for railway modellers who wish to depict the distinctive âStratford Sharkâ on layout or in dioramas.
