Accurascale has released a new OO gauge model of the BR Mk.2c coach with a large toilet window in Blue/Grey livery, featuring InterCity branding. This model is part of a larger range of Mk.2c coaches in various liveries, including Network SouthEast, TransPennine, and South Wales & West.
The model features a highly detailed exterior with fine rivet detail, etched metal and plastic parts, and prism-free glazing. The interior is also highly detailed, with characteristic 'winged' headrests and separate metal interior handrails. The model is designed to be compatible with 16.5mm track and has a minimum radius of 438mm.
The Mk.2c coach was introduced in the 1970s as a variant of the Mk.2b, featuring a large toilet window and various roof vent configurations. Initially allocated to the London Midland Region, they later became common across the country, including on the Southern Region. Accurascale has produced a range of Mk.2c coaches in various liveries, including BR Blue/Grey, Network SouthEast, and South Wales & West.
In reality, the Mk.2b and Mk.2c coaches were gradually replaced by Sprinter DMUs in the late 1980s and early 1990s, but a small fleet was leased by the South Wales & West franchise in the mid-1990s. This fleet included Mk.2b and Mk.2c coaches in Regional Railways blue and West Coast Railways maroon liveries.
The model is designed to be highly detailed and accurate, with a full lighting package, including magnet 'wand' controlled interior lighting and directional lighting. The model is also compatible with NEM standard coupling sockets and kinematic close-coupling. Accurascale has achieved a high level of fidelity in their model, matching previous Mk.2 runs in terms of detail and build quality.
