Accurascale has announced a second production run of their OO/4mm gauge Mark 1 56ft 11ā non-gangway suburban coaches in Maroon livery. This follows significant demand from model railway enthusiasts. The coaches will be part of the 'Transporting Britain' range and will feature highly-detailed, die-cast metal chassis with plastic bodies for ideal running weight.
The models will include accurate, replica BREL BR1 bogies with separate detailing, blackened RP25-110 profile wheels, and blackened brass bearings for smooth running on 26mm axles. Other features include NEM Standard coupling sockets, scale-width wire handrails, water pipes, and passenger communication gear. The models will also have separately fitted door handles and lamp brackets, headstock pipes and cabling, and a fully detailed, die-cast under-frame.
The interior of the coaches will feature fully accurate, replica interior layouts, complete with highly detailed seating, luggage racks, and framed artworks on the interior bulkheads. The models will also have prism-free flush glazing, separately fitted roof vents, and a full lighting package, including magnet 'wand' controlled interior lighting and all bogie pick-ups.
The Maroon livery was introduced by British Railways in the late 1950s, and the 57' non-gangway stock was gradually painted in the new livery by 1959. The livery application changed over time, with regional preferences influencing the appearance of the stock. The Eastern Region opted for a plain maroon livery, while the Midland and Western Regions had lining on their stock.
Accurascale's model of the Mark 1 suburban coaches allows modellers to recreate an authentic rake of these workhorses in OO gauge for the first time. The model features an exquisite level of detail and an unbeatable specification, including full interior lighting and a museum-quality finish. The Maroon coaches will be available in the same price range as the previous production run, at £64.95 each. They are expected to be delivered in Q1 2025.
