The Crawley Signal Box Preservation Society is hosting an open day at the historic signalbox located above the level crossing on Crawley High Street. This event will take place on Monday 19 September 2026, between 12 noon and 4pm, and admission is free. Visitors will be able to gain insight into how railway signalling operated in the pre-computer era, when human signalmen relied on manual levers to manage the flow of trains.
During the open day, attendees will have the opportunity to try their hand at working the signals, pulling levers to mimic the actions of a signalman. The society welcomes donations to help with the ongoing maintenance of the signalbox, but there is no admission charge. The event is a chance for the public to appreciate the historical significance of this preserved signalbox and the role it played in the railway network.
