The Crawley Signal Box Preservation Society is hosting an open day at the historic Crawley Level Crossing Signalbox in Crawley on Monday 15 August 2026. The event will run from 12 noon to 4pm and will give visitors the opportunity to experience what railway signalling was like in the pre-computer era.
During the open day, visitors will be able to try their hand at controlling the signals by pulling levers, gaining a unique insight into the skills and procedures of the signalmen of the past. Admission to the event is free, although donations are welcomed to support the ongoing maintenance of the signal box.
The Crawley Level Crossing Signalbox is located at the top of Crawley High Street and is a notable example of a surviving Victorian-era signal box. The open day is an excellent chance for railway enthusiasts and history buffs to explore this historic building and learn more about its significance in the history of the railways.
