The Crawley Signal Box Preservation Society is hosting an open day at the historic signal box at the top of Crawley High Street by the level crossing on Sunday 20th June 2026. The event will run from 12 noon to 4pm and is free to attend, although donations are welcome to help with the ongoing maintenance of the signal box.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about how railway signalling worked in the pre-computer era, when signalmen relied on manual control and levers to direct trains safely across the network. On the day, visitors will be able to try their hand at being a signalman, pulling levers and gaining a better understanding of the complexities of railway operations in the past.

The event is a chance for the public to explore the signal box and learn about its history, and the society is looking forward to welcoming visitors on the day.
