On Sunday 19th April 2026, the Ilford and West Essex Model Railway Club will be hosting a Live Steam Open Day at their club house in Chadwell Heath. The event promises to be an exciting day out for model railway enthusiasts, with a range of attractions on offer.
The main highlight of the event will be the ride-on railway itself, where visitors can take a thrilling journey on a miniature train. Admission to the club house is free, allowing visitors to browse the various model railway layouts on display. However, a small charge applies for train rides, with individual tickets costing £1.50 or a £5 all-day pass available for those who want to go on multiple rides.
In addition to the ride-on railway, the club has also arranged for a number of other activities to take place on the day. These include modelling demonstrations, where experienced modellers may be on hand to share their skills and techniques with visitors. There will also be club information, where members will be available to answer questions and provide information about the club and its activities.
Refreshments will be available throughout the day, making it a great opportunity to take a break and relax while still enjoying the attractions. Parking is also free on the opposite side of the station, making it easy for visitors to travel to and from the event.
The event will be hosted at the club's premises, which will be open from 10.30am to 4pm on the day. With six model railway layouts on display, as well as a trader selling model railway goods, there is something for everyone to enjoy this an additional open day for 2026.
