Manufacturer description

Richard Read Transport was started in 1946 by Richard Read Senior with one vehicle and a shovel. By the 1960's there were over 80 'Richard Read' vehicles on the road. Today they operate a range of vehicles - tippers, tautliners, low loaders and flats. His first lorry cost him £350.00 and in the first month of operation, he handled 1,350 tons of stone to help build the Gloucester Ring Road. Extra contracts soon followed and additional lorries were bought and shortly afterwards Richard bought his first new vehicle, a Bedford four-wheeler, registration number KFH 8. In 1959 they purchased their first ERF, registration TDG 689 and it was the first Articulated Tractor Unit in the fleet.

Oxford Diecast Richard Read MAN TGX is a 1:76 scale model die‑cast vehicle. It is supplied under the manufacturer part number MAN01CS and depicts a MAN TGX articulated tractor unit as it would have appeared during the rebuilding of the railways.

The model represents the post‑war period when British infrastructure was being restored, reflecting the type of heavy‑haul lorry used by Richard Read Transport for railway reconstruction work.

Richard Read Transport was founded in 1946 by Richard Read Senior with a single vehicle and a shovel. By the 1960s the fleet had expanded to more than 80 vehicles, including tippers, tautliners, low loaders and flat beds. The company’s first articulated tractor unit, an ERF with registration TDG 689, was purchased in 1959.
