The Ford Escort XR3i belonged to the third generation of the Escort car made by Ford Europe and the XR3i was developed as a sporting rival to the contemporary VW Golf GTI. The eighties witnessed the Mk III Escort as the most common type of car on British roads with almost one and a half million at the end of the decade. Its highly desirable offshoot, the XR3i benefited from an upgraded suspension and cosmetic modifications and came complete with fuel injection.
Registered OGT 539Y from 1982/83, this two-door saloon is decorated in an attractive blue colour scheme with black trim to aerofoil, bumpers, window surrounds and radiator grille. The contrasting interior is moulded in deep grey. In real life, the XR3i was a particular hit with the younger male drivers.

Oxford Diecast Ford Escort XR3i Caspian Blue (Manufacturer Part Number 76XR006) is a 1:43 scale die‑cast model representing the third‑generation Ford Escort XR3i as it appeared during the British Rail sectorisation period.
The real‑world XR3i was the sporting derivative of the Mk III Escort, introduced as a rival to the VW Golf GTI. Throughout the 1980s the Mk III Escort was the most common car on UK roads, with around 1.5 million examples in use by the end of the decade. The XR3i version featured an upgraded suspension, fuel injection and a number of cosmetic enhancements.
The model is marked as OGT 539Y and depicts a two‑door saloon from the 1982/83 registration year. It is finished in a caspian blue body with black trim on the aerofoil, bumpers, window surrounds and radiator grille, and a deep‑grey moulded interior. The XR3i was particularly popular with younger male drivers at the time.
