The AEC Matador, distinctive with its flat fronted cab, curved roof and rear flatbed covered with either canvas or tarpaulin tilt was essentially an artillery tractor introduced by the Associated Equipment Company (AEC) during WWII, when it was used by both British and Commonwealth forces. With a length of 20 ft 10 ins, width of 7ft 10 ins and a height of 9ft 7 ins, the 4 x 4 Matador had an average speed of 30 mph. This example was used by the Allied forces in Malta, a country which was awarded the George Cross for its defence of the island against the enemy in WWII. The Royal Artillery Malta was a transport wing of the British Army used to help the British and US forces stationed on the island. This model carries the desert livery .
