Dapol A4 Quicksilver 2510 is a model of the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) Class A4 locomotive named Quicksilver, produced in the Silver Jubilee livery. The model measures 295 mm in length, has a 4‑6‑2 wheel arrangement and a maximum speed of 90 mph. It is DCC fitted, with a DCC compatible motor and a back‑EMF control system suitable for both DC and DCC operation. The locomotive is built from die‑cast metal for the chassis, locomotive and tender bodies, and includes details such as etched nameplates, authentic decorations, lubricators and a sliding cab roof ventilator.
The model features synchronized puffing smoke and recorded chuffing sounds taken from the real locomotive ‘Bittern’, as well as short and long simulated steam whistles. Speakers are fitted in both the locomotive and its tender, and front lamps can be switched on and off in DCC mode. Wheels, valve gear and buffers are sprung, and the driving wheels are sprung for realistic motion. A choice of cartazzi truck is offered, with a pivoting version for tight curves and a limited‑travel version for larger layouts. Glazed cab windows, real coal fixed in the tender and correct tender and locomotive body variations are also included.
This limited edition run is numbered, with only 320 units produced and a numbered certificate provided. Each model is supplied in a collectors presentation case. The prototype represented by this model was built in September 1935, entered service on 01 September 1935, served the LNER for 27 years and was withdrawn in April 1963. The model represents the period known as the Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).
