Manufacturer description

These coaches were designed by William Stanier in the 1930s as flush sided metal clad versions of the previous LMS suburban coaches. The prototype managed to last in service as late as the mid 1960s, in BR use. The prototypes that Dapol's tooling is based on numbered 25 composites and 32 brake end coaches. The coaches appeared in three liveries throughout their service life; LMS lined maroon, BR Carmine and BR lined maroon.

Specifications / Improvements

The tooling was originally purchased by Dapol from Airfix back in the 1980's, there are some compromises on detailĀ and accuracy due to the condition of tooling that is now fifty+ years old. We have however made some improvementsĀ to these models which are listed below.

The Dapol 57ft Stanier Non-Corridor Brake M25270M in BR Lined Maroon is a model representing British Railways' early crest period. The prototype coaches were designed by William Stanier in the 1930s as metal-clad versions of LMS suburban coaches, and some remained in service until the mid 1960s.

The model is based on one of 57 prototype coaches, with three liveries being represented: LMS lined maroon, BR Carmine, and BR lined maroon. The tooling for the model was acquired by Dapol from Airfix in the 1980s and has undergone some improvements.

These improvements include new separately fitted underframe details, a separately fitted dynamo, upgraded vacuum cylinders, additional framing, brake shafts, upgraded bogie pivot fixing, new metal wheels, new adaptor clips for NEM pockets, and re-polished glazing.
