The Dapol 57ft Stanier Non-Corridor Composite model is a representation of a coach type designed by William Stanier in the 1930s for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. The prototype coaches were built as flush-sided metal-clad versions of earlier LMS suburban coaches and remained in service until the mid 1960s, with some still in use under British Railways ownership.

The model is based on a tooling originally purchased by Dapol from Airfix in the 1980s. As a result, some compromises have been made on detail and accuracy due to the age of the tooling. However, Dapol has made several improvements to the model, including the addition of new separately fitted underframe details, a dynamo, and vacuum cylinders. Other changes include the addition of extra framing, brake shafts, and upgraded bogie pivot fixings, as well as new metal wheels and adaptor clips for NEM pockets. The model's glazing has also been re-polished.
