The popular '94XX' Class 0-6-0 pannier tank was effectively the last GWR steam locomotive; the first ten were turned out in the company's Middle Chrome Green by Swindon before nationalisation. The remaining 200 were built for BR in unlined black livery by outside contractors Robert Stephenson, Yorkshire Engine Co. and W.G Bagnall between 1949 and 1956, with minor detail differences. All were capable of steam heating coaching stock.

They were a development of the numerous '57XX/ 8750' Class, designed for secondary mixed traffic and shunting duties, with an instruction from the GWR's General Manager, Sir James Milne, that they should be of more modern appearance than the traditional GW pannier tank. Withdrawals began in 1959 with the final survivor remaining in traffic into 1965, and as a result only a limited number of the class received the BR late crest.

Two locomotives have been preserved, one of which, No. 9400, is part of the National Collection.

Bachmann GWR 94xx Class 0‑6‑0PT No.9400 is a limited‑edition model produced exclusively for Locomotion Models by Bachmann Europe Plc. It is supplied as a 00 gauge (4 mm) locomotive in GWR Green livery and carries the manufacturer part number 35‑025NRM. The model is DCC ready and features a Next 18 decoder socket.

The locomotive represents the GWR 94XX Class pannier tank, the final steam design built for the Great Western Railway. The first ten examples were delivered in Middle Chrome Green by Swindon before nationalisation, while the remaining 200 were constructed for British Railways in unlined black by external contractors between 1949 and 1956. Withdrawals began in 1959 and the last member of the class remained in service until 1965, meaning only a small number carried the British Railways late crest.

Two members of the class have been preserved; No. 9400 is part of the National Collection. The model depicts the railway period known as the Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).
