Manufacturer description

The Class 45s were built at British Rail’s Derby and Crewe Works between 1960 and 1962. They were a development of the Class 44 and, together with the Class 46, the three classes were collectively known as the ‘Peaks’. As built the entire class was fitted with multiple-working equipment and steam-heat boilers but some later had their boilers removed and were fitted with electric train heating (ETH). With the implementation of TOPS in 1971, the steam-heat locos were designated Class 45/0 and the ETH fitted examples became 45/1s. From 1975, during works visits the locomotives began to have their head-code equipment removed and this was replaced with sheet metal and two sealed beam marker lights and it is in this condition that our Class 45/0s are modelled. Although withdrawals of the Class 45 fleet began in the early-1980s, No. 45040 was one of the longest surviving examples and was not withdrawn until July 1987.

Available from Bachmann retailers in the following areas: Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, City of Bristol & North Somerset, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, South Cheshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, Worcestershire, Ireland and Wales.

Bachmann Class 45/0 locomotive 45040, named ‘The King’s Shropshire Light Infantry’, is presented in British Rail blue. The model carries the manufacturer part number 32‑684DBSF and represents the locomotive in its TOPS‑era BR Blue livery.

The full‑size Class 45 locomotives were constructed at British Rail’s Derby and Crewe works between 1960 and 1962. They were a development of the earlier Class 44 and, together with Class 46, were collectively known as the ‘Peaks’. As built each member of the class was fitted with multiple‑working equipment and a steam‑heat boiler; later some units had their boilers removed and were equipped with electric train heating (ETH). Under the TOPS system introduced in 1971, steam‑heat equipped locomotives were classified as Class 45/0 and ETH‑fitted examples as Class 45/1. From 1975 head‑code equipment was removed and replaced by sheet‑metal fittings and two sealed‑beam marker lights; the Bachmann model reflects this 1975‑onward condition. While the Class 45 fleet began to be withdrawn in the early 1980s, No. 45040 remained in service until 1 July 1987.

The model is sold through Bachmann retailers in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, the City of Bristol and North Somerset, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, South Cheshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, the West Midlands, Worcestershire, Ireland and Wales.
