Era 5 (1956 to 1966) British Railways Late Crest
The Bachmann Branchline model of the LMS 4P Compound makes a welcome return to the range as No. 41143 in BR Lined Black livery with Late Crest. These small but power steam locomotives are packed full of detail, highlighted by the wonderful livery application which extends to the fully detailed cab. An essential addition to any BR Midland Region locomotive fleet.

LMS 4P COMPOUND HISTORY
The London, Midland and Scottish Railway Compound 4-4-0 was a class of steam locomotive designed for passenger work. One hundred and ninety-five engines were built by the LMS, adding to the 45 examples of the Midland Railway 1000 Class, to which they were almost identical. The most obvious difference is that the driving wheel diameter was reduced from 7ft. 0in. on the Midland locomotive to 6ft. 9in. on the LMS version. They were given the power classification 4P. The locomotives were constructed at Derby and Horwich Works and by outside contractors.
The LMS continued the Midland numbering from 1045 to 1199 and then started in the lower block of 900–939. After nationalisation in 1948, BR added 40000 to their numbers so they became 40900–40939 and 41045–41199.
The Class were withdrawn between 1952 and 1961. None have survived into preservation, though the first of the Midland 1000 Class engines was saved and is part of the National Collection.

Bachmann Branchline OO scale model of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway 4P Compound, running number 41143, presented in pristine British Railways lined black livery with Late Crest. The model is finished to a high standard, with a fully detailed cab and a welded Fowler tender that includes an adjustable drawbar and poseable fall‑plate.
The locomotive measures 233 mm in length, has a 4‑4‑0 wheel arrangement and is equipped with a 21‑pin DCC decoder socket, allowing it to be fitted with a recommended decoder (item no. 36‑557) and a speaker in the tender. Additional features include NEM coupling pockets, sprung buffers and a pickup system in the tender.
The prototype was built in 1901, with a total production of 240 engines. Designed by Henry Fowler, the class served passenger duties and was classified as 4P. After nationalisation in 1948 the locomotives were renumbered into the British Railways series, and the class was withdrawn between 1952 and 1961, with none surviving into preservation. This model represents the British Railways Late Crest period.
