Manufacturer description

50007 Hercules entered service in August 1968 as D407 and was named Hercules on 6 April 1978, then renamed Sir Edward Elgar on 25 February 1984 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Great Western Railway. Retired from service on 26 March 1994, 50007 was preserved by the Class 40 Appeal at Midland Railway Butterley, then sold into private hands, before being acquired by the Class 50 Alliance in November 2016.
