History
This locomotive started life as one of Gresleyâs original 52 âA1â Class, completed at Doncaster Works as No. 2562 in July 1925. It was one of only eight locomotives given a name from new, the remainder being named between August 1925 and the following February.Â
Isinglass was rebuilt as an âA3â in April 1946, which included a new boiler to a higher pressure, matching 27 new âA3â locomotives constructed between 1928 and 1935. Renumbered 531 in 1946, the locomotive became No. 60063 under BR and was fitted with a double-chimney in 1959 and smoke deflectors in 1961. It was withdrawn from service in June 1964 and scrapped.

Hornby BR (Late) Class A3 60063 âIsinglassâ is a OO gauge model of the former LNER Pacific locomotive, supplied in BR Express Blue livery and fitted with a HM7000 DCC decoder, sound and a GenâŻ2 steamâgenerator system.
The model incorporates a 5âpole skewâwound motor, electrical pickups on both the driving wheels and tender wheels, and brass mainâdrive bearings. It is equipped with a preâfitted 21âpin HM7000 decoder, speaker and DCC sound profile, a piezoâbased steam generator with a water reservoir sufficient for approximately 20âŻminutes of continuous steam, and a flickering firebox. The locomotive uses metal sprung buffers, NEM couplings and requires a DCC controller or the HM7000 app for operation.
Physical specifications include a dieâcast chassis, dieâcast connecting rods and valve gear, a turned brass safetyâvalve set, and a separately fitted simulated coal load within a fully detailed tender bunker. The overall length is 293âŻmm, the minimum curve is a 2ndâradius (438âŻmm), and the accessory bag contains a tablet catcher, vacuum pipes, lamps and couplings.
The model represents locomotive No.âŻ60063 âIsinglassâ, originally built as No.âŻ2562 on 01/07/1925, rebuilt as an A3 on 01/04/1946 and withdrawn on 01/06/1964. It bears early BR crest detailing, the original GNRâstyle tender and doubleâchimney, and is intended to be displayed with BR Gresley Crimson/Cream coaches.
